Today is the day when we were supposed to be playing Cyberpunk 2077 and burning down the city. Instead, the game is still 21 days away. The hype certainly hasn’t died down, and the final Night City Wire episode has only made me wish that the next three weeks would pass quickly.

Here’s Johnny!

“He’d burn down half the city just to prove he was right.”

The first segment of the video showcases the level of insanity that Johnny Silverhand brings to the game. There is a lot of shooting, riding, punching in the 2-minute segment, establishing Silverhand as an absolute madman. When he’s out of bullets, he even throws the damn gun to knock an enemy out. Silverhand will be a treat to be beside while causing chaos in Night City. The segment ends with him delivering a line that I’ll remember for a long time and will probably giggle to myself when I hear this in the game again.

“You’re a dick, you know?

And you’re a cunt. Maybe we’ll fit together after all?

Behind The Scenes with Keanu Reeves

In this segment, Mr. Breathtaking talked about bringing Johnny Silverhand to life. Motion Capture is something he’s familiar with, having done MoCap as early as The Matrix. Can I just interrupt here to say that Keanu Reeves can absolutely beat me to death with a bat and step on my neck and I wouldn’t say a word. Yes, back to the article now.

The thing that thrilled him most about portraying Silverhand and being a part of the game was the non-linearity that the game presents. Keanu says he loved the fact that he had to do three or four different versions of a scene depending on the choices that the game presents the players with. He loves the freedom that Cyberpunk 2077 provides the players, the identities players can carve as V and he also praised the “drama, emotional stakes”. Adding to that, he also commented on the music, production design and technical aspects of the game. To put it in his own words:

“I don’t think there will be a game like this.”

We believe you, Keanu.

Borys Pugacz-Muraszkiewicz, a lead writer, described Johnny Silverhand as a co-protagonist of the game. He says that everyone who’s watched Keanu’s work in The Matrix or John Wick knows that Keanu is just himself in those characters, and Johnny Silverhand is no different. He praises Keanu’s work ethic and also mentions that Keanu is a professional who brings his “talent, art, technical skill and overwhelming charm” to set.

The Sound of Night City

Next up, Marcin Przybyłowicz and Paul Leonard Morgan tell us that they aimed to create the score of the game by taking the existing Cyberpunk genre of music of the 80s and give it a 90s flair instead. They emphasize on the importance of music in both films and videogames, and thus they had to get the theme for the game absolutely perfect. The music in the game is very varied, with over 7.5 hours of music and 150 genre-bending tracks to please the gamer’s ear drums while they wreak havoc in Night City. Grimes, Gazelle Twin, Rat Boy and Run The Jewels also make appearances in the segment to talk about their involvement.

Hollie Bennett then announces that a 6-track EP featuring songs from the game will be released on streaming platforms. There will also be a special feature for streamers that allows them to replace songs that might cause copyright issues with songs that won’t cause any trouble. This feature can be turned on and off depending on the player’s wish.

JALI

Cyberpunk 2077 will be available in 10 different languages when it launches. JALI, a facial animation software will develop different facial animations for all the different languages. These animations are automatically produced on the basis of the speech it hears from the voice actors. The animations are procedurally generated which makes it very simple to fine tune the details.

“All you’re doing is changing an attribute. For example ‘speech style’. If you want your character to shout instead of mumble instead of issuing a set of commands that redo the animation instead you click an attribute going from, in this case, mumble to shout.” — Pip Edwards, JALI.

My Rewards

On top of the free stuff you get when you purchase the game either digitally or physically, CD Projekt Red has also announced that you’ll be getting more rewards based on simple tasks like linking the game to your GOG account or having other CD Projekt Red games on your account. The My Rewards system is also vice versa, so linking the game to your GOG account will also grant you rewards for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game etc. as well.

New Gameplay Trailer

The final segment of the final Night City Wire Episode debuts a brand new trailer for the game, which honestly has gotten me hyped even more! I’m not gonna write anything about it because you need to watch it RIGHT NOW!

Cyberpunk 2077 comes out December 10th, 2020 for PC, Xbox and Playstation Systems and the Stadia.
